Prenditi Cura Di Ciò Che Hai.
Take Care of What You Have.
This year, Grand Hotel Miramare celebrates its 120th anniversary. We’ve distilled the past twelve decades into twelve principles that now guide our approach to life. Each principle is a lesson learned from each decade, with our eleventh principle below covering 2003 to 2012.
There was a fresh sense of optimism and hope as Italy entered the 21st century. The new millennium was seen as an opportunity for a clean start and a chance to leave behind some of the political and economic turmoil of the 90s.
Everyone felt the energy of the new millennium, including us at Grand Hotel Miramare.
In 2003 we celebrated our 100th birthday and started writing the hotel’s next chapter. This meant updating our beloved Mira in a few gentle ways.
We wanted to preserve all of the hotel’s history and heritage but connect the past with the present. The start of our eleventh decade saw us create the eSPAce Wellness Center, while the end of it saw the foundations of the hotel’s miramART collection emerge.
The latter is a non-profit organisation that supports contemporary art culture. Through miramART we organise exhibitions and conferences; invite collectors, gallerists and artists to the hotel; and showcase contemporary art in the hotel’s public and private spaces.
The miramART has created a new language for the hotel, one that infuses Italian design from the 50s with art and beauty from the 00s.
The updates and renovations we made in the 2000s are a reminder that you’re never too old to grow and adapt.
All of which leads us to our eleventh principle for life: prenditi cura di ciò che hai. Or in English: take care of what you have.
Now celebrating 120 years of life, we always want to look after our past.
Preserving our heritage helps us maintain a sense of identity and continuity across generations. But this doesn’t mean creating a museum of artefacts. It means adding life to the past through new sites and sounds.
At Grand Hotel Miramare, taking care of our past is not just an act of nostalgia. It's a responsibility that enriches lives, educates, and connects us to the world and the generations that came before us.
The mantra of ‘taking care of what we have’ also touches our approach to hospitality.
In the past 120 years, guests have become family and friends, returning each summer to say hello and enjoy a drink by the pool, beach or bar. Long may that continue!
